2016 Crow Valley Gerwürztraminer
South Willamette Valley
The 2016 Gewurztraminer from Crow Valley Vineyard has lovely freshness with white peach, honeydew melon, lychee, and freshly sliced lime aromas that are nicely defined. The palate is crisp and fresh with a fine line of acidity that neatly offsets the tropical tones of the grape variety, quite saline in the mouth with an almost chalky textured finish. This is very well crafted and should offer several years of pleasure.
12.6% Alcohol by volume
We are so lucky to get this fruit. It comes from 40 year old vines in the South Valley. In good years like 2014, the vines can produce a decent amount of fruit, but in lean years, we’ve made as little as two barrels. The nose is gorgeous- Asian pear, white gumdrop, lemon verbena and lemon grass. Explosive aromatics, but not over the top like some Gerwürztraminers can be. It’s balanced, refreshing and begs for spicy and fatty foods.
